Wordpress

Wordpress is a CMS focused on the creation of blogs. Developed in PHP with MySQL, under GPL licensing, its founder is Matt Mullenweg. WordPress was created from the extinct b2/cafelog and has become along with Movable Type in the most popular CMS of the blogsphere. The reason for such success is its licensing and its ease of usage.
Its main developer Matt Mullenweg chose the name upon suggestion of his friend Christine Selleck. The consecutive versions of this CMS carry names of jazz musicians, an example is version 1.0 named Mingus. Version 1.5 was released on February 2005 and is named "Strayhorn" (Billy Strayhorn). It offers a wide range of new features like the usage of static pages.
WordPress was born from the wish to develop a system to publish personal stuff in an elegant way with a good architecture ("Code is poetry"). Based on PHP, MySQL and licensed under GPL, Wordpress gives special attention to aesthetics, web standards and usability.
